| Abstract: |
Fractional electrodeionization (FEDI) is an advanced version of EDI. The conventional EDI process is limited in terms of hardness tolerance and results in scaling due to precipitation of hardness. FEDI differentiates the treatment of weakly ionized and strongly ionized impurities, and provides optimum driving force in terms of electrical energy in a two-stage process. FEDI has specially designed media with an objective to minimize pressure drop and facilitate quick transport of all the ionic impurities into the reject stream. This article will discuss several advancements and improvements of FEDI technology as compared to conventional EDI. |
